In 2018, Nevaeh's mom, Elisa, became a CASA advocate through the Child Advocates division in Harris County. After spending several hours per week in training, her daughter Nevaeh became curious as to what was taking her mom away from the home. Elisa explained in detail about CASA, its mission and how children are taken into Foster Care. Child Advocates gave Elisa a book named “Just for Now” to read to the children assigned on the case. Elisa left the book in the car one day and Nevaeh read the book in its entirety and began asking questions about the foster care system. Neveah learned that children are often transported from home to home with their belongings in trash bags and was outraged. “Children are not garbage, their things should not be in trash bags”, she stated. Nevaeh decided she wanted to do something to assist the children in foster care and thought that providing luggage to the children in foster care was her way of helping. She got on her mom’s cell phone and began calling all the people in her contact log she knew to solicit donations to start the nonprofit. After receiving enough donations, the idea of Kids N Care was developed.
